STAR CC in ECL 2022

ECL 2022: A Word from the Captain

Star Cricket Club got the unique opportunity to participate in the Eurpean Cricket League in 2022. Having won the Pete-Mitchell cup, Star CC represented Luxembourg in the ECL, a 6 week long T10 tournament involving top 30 teams from 29 European countries in Malaga, Spain.

A squad of 13 players, captained by Vijay Desai along with Manager Vikrant Naik, coach Niraj Trivedi and Sri Kolla as the LCF representative set out for Malaga on the 5th February for the first week at ECL 2022. Without much of T10 experience and having to face the Luxembourgish weather which does not allow any outdoor practice, this tournament wasn’t going to be easy one.

We, of course, were supported by Gemeng Schëtter who provided their indoor facilities for Star CC to practice during the winter. The Group A consisted of Helsinki Titans (Finland), Austrian Cricket Tigers (Austria), Dreux Cricket Club (France), Svanholm Cricket Club (Denmark) and the eventual runnersup in the Finals week Tunbridge Wells (England).

The tournament provided us with a chance to test against the best from outside of Luxembourg. Some of the results did not go our way and we lost few of the close games. However, winning the hearts of the viewers and the organisers we finished 5th after defeating the Helsinki Titans in closest of the matches that saw the Golden Ball rule for the only time in the tournament.

While the cricketing highlights and records are available online, the tournament gave the squad to bond like never before. The brotherhood, the experience we gained, the cricketing fights and the (happy) tears we shed, will always stay with as the best cricketing highlight of our lives, so far. We know we want to be back here for the next year and qualif for the finals week in 2023.
